What is Future Bilingual?
Future Bilingual is a new service offering fun and friendly Spanish and French sessions for children under 5 from our team of qualified and experienced native speaker tutors. Our research-based method immerses your child in a second language from a young age, setting them on a path to future bilingualism.
What are the benefits?
Fluency in a second language offers children an incredible host of benefits as they grow up. There are the social advantages of being able to communicate freely in a foreign language and the rich, international experiences that can come with it.
Even more impressive are the cognitive benefits that children who grow up with more than one language often experience thanks to the strengthening of neural pathways in the bilingual child’s brain. Studies show that children with a second language often possess advanced problem solving, memory and creative skills - and on average perform better in tests and standardised assessments at school.
How does Future Bilingual work?
From January 2022, we’re starting our first 8-week block of twice weekly Spanish and French group sessions for under 5s in locations across Edinburgh with our team of native tutors. Groups are split into mini-groups of 1-2s and 3-4s with a tutor:child ratio of 1:3. We also offer one-to-ones in Spanish, French and Mandarin.
Our method is inspired by the latest research into children’s second language acquisition. The University of Washington found that introducing children under 5 to a second language spoken by native speakers in regular, highly interactive sessions can set them on a trajectory to foreign language fluency and, if maintained over time, fully-fledged bilingualism.
The Future Bilingual sessions will be hosted by our tutors in 100% French or Spanish to completely immerse your child in the language, with one English speaking member of staff present for any questions. Parents can stay during the 1-hour long sessions and are welcome to join in, but we ask for minimal English to create a fully immersive experience! Each of our locations has on-site café facilities.

We make sure that all current Covid protocols are in place for our sessions. All of our tutors take a lateral flow test and must report a negative test result before every session.
