St Leonards School has celebrated another excellent set of GCSE results this month with an impressive 94% of qualifications awarded grades 9-4 (equivalent to A*-C), far exceeding the national average. St Leonards has a reputation for academic excellence, and also recently achieved another superb set of International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma and Career-related Programme results earlier this summer, with which secured the Year 13 leavers places at prestigious universities in Scotland, the UK and worldwide.
This year’s GCSE pupils excelled in the sciences, English, languages, art , and mathematics, with over half of the exam entries graded at 9-7 or A*/A, or 54% in total. Special congratulations go to a number of our students who achieved straight 9s and 8s and particular congratulations to Matylda K who scored a remarkable string of nine 9 grades: a clean sweep across all her subjects.
Other top performers were Eliza K (nine 9 grades plus one 8 grade); Shreyas D and Viola F (both with seven 9 grades plus two 8 grades) and XiuRong G and Harry P also achieving excellent results (six 9 grades and four 9 grades respectively).
Another remarkable achievement within this cohort was Ben L who achieved an incredible 100% in his Maths GCSE! It is likely that he will be one of the top performers in the country. The Maths results in general were extremely good with 63% achieving a 9-7/(A*-A).
Simon Brian, Head of St Leonards, remarked: “We congratulate all our pupils on their outstanding results which rank as some of the best that pupils at St Leonards have ever achieved. I am in real admiration of how our pupils have worked incredibly hard over the last year, supported by our dedicated staff; they should be rightly proud of their achievements and the doors that will open to them as a result.”
Will Gaisford, Deputy Head (Academic), further emphasised: “These outstanding results open a wide range of pathways to our pupils here at St Leonards. With two gold-standard international baccalaureate qualifications to choose from in the Sixth Form, there are bright futures ahead for our Year 11s.”
St Leonards is Scotland’s Independent School of the Year for Academic Performance, as referenced by the Sunday Times. Earlier this summer, St Leonards celebrated similarly impressive International Baccalaureate results with pupils departing to some of the UK and world’s best universities, including: The University of Oxford, University College London, the University of Edinburgh, the University of Glasgow, Durham University and Bucconi in Italy.
