Parent Recommendation: St Andrews Botanic Garden

So blissful we went back the very next day! Much more to do than on a beach we thought.

WHEN:

10am-5pm

7 days

ACCESS:

Park there. Or walk along Viaduct Walk (scenic and buggy/bike friendly) that starts near the West Port (A short wall from St A bus station).

What we loved...

  •  18 acres to explore with plenty of places to shelter. Not at all like the Botanics in Edinburgh. Wild & more experimental (feeling) as a place that is deeply connected to the university. It feels closer to nature.

  •  Just a few families there and a real sense of freedom for kids. But supervision needed near the pond and watery areas in the rock gardens.

  •  A fantastic fairly recently done wooden playground for kids who love to climb and balance. Ideal age: 5+ But my toddler loved the balancing beams (see photo).

  •  Hunt the Gruffalo!!!

  •  Fantastic sheltered areas. Good coffee at the coffee shop at the entrance.

  •  Children are free (0-16 years)

  •  Cost effective to become a 'Friend' if going several times per year (£28 or £42 for joint members)

  •  Wonderful people working there.

NB: Get a map on entry if you don't fancy going astray! Could be better signposted. But the folk working there are sooo friendly and helpful.
