More info: Edinburgh Sports Club
Ideal for families with kids aged 4+,
Open Monday-Sunday, 9am-7.30pm.
Padel is a fun, easier version of tennis, with equipment available for hire.
Cost: £36/hour for courts, £3/each for rackets & balls. They have 2 pay & play courts, and I presume the other one is for members.
What we loved:
Padel scores like tennis but an easier game to play. The court is a third of the size of a tennis court, enclosed by walls and a wire mesh fence and is divided into two halves by a net. Perfect for families with little ones and big ones ! What makes the game more fun is that the ball can be played off the walls. Padel rackets are solid and balls look like regular tennis balls but they actually have less pressure.
Equipment is available to hire for a cost of £3 per racket and £3 for balls
We love that Edinburgh Sports Club courts are outside, so you are exercising with fresh air but crucially they have a roof !! You need to book in advance but don't need to worry about the weather.
To book a court you will need to register and set up an account. I had to wait 5 mins for the email confirmation then I could book. NB: remember the username you give yourself. (here)
The courts are besides the Water of Leith which makes a nice walk before or after and the Modern Art Galleries One and Two are a short walk away for lunch.
The club has a cafe too.
NB: The pay & play booking system only lets you book 6 days in advance.
Edinburgh Sports Club also have tennis courts and squash courts which you can book via the pay and play. Or there is a membership option if you are a racket and ball sort of family.
