George Heriot’s Nursery

George Heriot’s Nursery is a modern child-friendly facility within our historic setting. The Nursery day, for all pupils, runs from 8:15am to 2:00pm, while after Nursery care is available until 6:00pm every day. Pupils engage in purposeful play which uses the full potential of the indoor and outdoor learning environments of the stunning Heriot's campus. There is also more formal learning in preparation for joining Primary 1.

Our Nursery education, which is a pre-school year, is delivered by fully-qualified primary teachers, nursery nurses and a range of subject specialists, whilst our wide range of resources enable an all-round experience for every child.

Nursery staff tailor each child’s experience according to individual strengths. Staff plan activities which recognise the importance of emotional, personal and social skills: the development of literacy and numeracy; the acquisition of creative and physical skills and knowledge of the immediate environment and the wider world. The development of each child is carefully tracked by our excellent staff.

Parents are kept fully informed and involved in the learning process. All Nursery children sit the School’s Primary 1 Entrance Assessment in January.

Our 2021 Open Morning will be held on Saturday 25 September in 2021. To find out more, or arrange a visit, please contact the Admissions Office on 0131 221 6709 or visit www.george-heriots.com.
