Erskine Stewart Melville Nursery is a vibrant and nurturing environment where every child is celebrated as an individual. Through an attachment-led approach, we offer tailored opportunities that help children discover their unique potential.

Our three and four-year-olds enjoy light-filled playrooms and the freedom to explore our extensive, beautiful grounds – one of the largest outdoor nursery spaces in Edinburgh. The ethos of our Nursery encourages vibrant, creative, and hands-on learning. We ignite each child’s imagination and curiosity through play-based activities that inspire creativity, develop critical thinking, and nurture their independence. Every day is an adventure, as children explore, discover, and grow, all whilst having endless fun!

Our staff, including qualified teachers in each pre-school room, work closely with children to inspire confidence and instil strong values. Junior School teachers are also a part of the Nursery experience, delivering specialist lessons in Music, PE, Digital Learning, Library time, and Forest Kindergarten.

Our children’s happiness is our priority. We know that a child’s wellbeing is central to their success, which is why we focus on creating a happy, safe, and secure environment. Special spaces, such as our sensory and nurture rooms, are designed to engage and stimulate, while outdoor learning is an integral part of our approach. We believe there is nothing that a child learns indoors, that cannot be learned outside. Children delight in climbing trees, sledging, exploring our adventure park, and enjoying our Forest Kindergarten programme, which builds confidence, problem-solving skills, and resilience.

Our wraparound care provides a balance of structured and free play for your child, before and after Nursery, and during the holidays, meaning you can be covered for nearly 50 weeks of the year.

Additionally, eligible families can access up to 1140 hours of Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) funding, through our partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council.
