Edinburgh Young Musicians

The aim of Edinburgh Young Musicians (EYM) is to nurture and develop each pupil's innate musicianship, enabling them to enjoy music and realise their individual musical potential. Catering for 3- to 18-year-olds, classes range from pre-school musical play to orchestras and choirs, incorporating beginners' instrumental classes, chamber music and musicianship, as well as occasional concerts.

At EYM they believe in developing various aspects of children’s musicianship before exposing them to the discipline of learning an instrument or singing in a choir, and to that end they offer musical play & musical workshop classes to children in their final pre-school year as well as P1, P2 & sometimes P3. These youngest classes are open to children with no musical experience.

They have a wonderfully accomplished, energetic and committed team of staff, all of whom share EYM’s vision of wanting to develop children’s musical potential in a positive and enjoyable way, with the understanding that the better you do something, the more satisfaction and pleasure you will gain from it.

A Bursary Fund aims to ensure that nobody is unable to attend EYM classes for purely financial reasons.

EYM is thrilled with its wonderful new post-lockdown home at George Watson’s College. In addition to excellent indoor facilities for classes, the school has a well-equipped playground where younger children can expend some energy between classes or while siblings are in classes.

“We are very grateful our kids were introduced to music in such a beautiful way”

“EYM has been so important for his development as a musician and a person”

“This school is just incredible. I’ve never seen music taught so well”
