Playgroups are less formal than a private company or council run nurseries and operate for set hours each day. Parents may be required to volunteer at times. They offer stimulating and educational play sessions for children aged approximately 2 to 5-year-olds. Also inspected by the care commission and council for funding. Playgroups usually run 3 hours sessions in the morning and or afternoon, up to five days per week, and follow school term times.
It is important to note that a playgroup is not the same as a ‘Parent Toddler Group’ or ‘Mother & Baby Playgroup’, which are social groups for parents/carers to attended with their child.
Costs
The full cost of a session (usually 3 hours) will be around £10-£26 per session and include a snack. If your playgroup/nursery is registered with the local authority, your 3 or 4-year-old (and some 2-year-olds.) will be eligible for a fully funded place providing the full 1140 hours entitlement. (Starting the term after your child turns Three)
