We provide an all-day preschool for children for one year prior to joining Primary One, complete with additional Wrap Around Care options. From the moment your child begins their journey at Watson’s Preschool you are welcomed into a warm and nurturing environment where kindness and respect are at the heart of daily life. The health and wellbeing of the children is paramount. They are supported to develop independence and resilience alongside appreciating the great value of friendship and relationships. Our Preschool has been rated Excellent by the Care Inspectorate.
Our well-planned and carefully designed play-based curriculum has adventure and fun at its core. We encourage curiosity, promote independence and support children to be confident and to think of others. We focus on helping children develop the all-important life skills of imagination, turn-taking, leadership and problem-solving. At the same time, the crucial early foundations of Health and Wellbeing (HWB), literacy, numeracy and language skills are embedded into our practice ensuring that children are in the best possible place to take the next steps in their education. Children’s rights, our school values (Aim High, Join In, Respect All, Be Kind), resilience and HWB are at the heart of everything we do in Preschool as we learn through all the different forms of play.
Our Preschool classes are teacher-led and supported by a team of experienced and highly skilled Early Years Practitioners. We follow a visual timetable that allows for child-led activities with free flow between the classroom and our enclosed garden areas. Our children also benefit from specialist teachers in PE, Music and Art. We have an excellent team of School Nurses and our wonderful Deputy Headteacher oversees and supports all pastoral care within our Preschool.
Throughout the year we have a great schedule of events to make sure our parents feel a part of their child’s Preschool Journey. Each week, using an online platform, we communicate with you about the work we have been doing in Preschool. We also work in partnership with parents and create Personal Pupil Profiles for each of our Preschool Children.
