Don't miss a trip to Dalkeith Country Park this Summer
Have you discovered the all new Dalkeith Country Park? A countryside haven set in 1,000 acres, you’ll find it hard to believe it’s just 20 minutes from the city centre. Fort Douglas adventure park is a magical place to let off some steam in the great outdoors and since the opening of the new Sky Maze in 2019, gives hours of entertainment on a family day out. Kids (and their adults) can find their fun in a maze of sky-high walkways through the trees, whizz across zip lines, scramble through treehouses, climb rope nets, whoosh down slides and brave the invisible floor. What’s more, over the summer holidays the Fort Douglas team has created a programme of natural craft activities that take place daily from wand making to card crafting, face stencilling and more.
Across the bridge from Fort Douglas you’ll find Restoration Yard Store, Restaurant and Wellbeing Lab. An impressive boutique-styled store filled with fashion, homewares, kids, local food and drink, books and stationery, it’s less a shop and more a chic emporium. The Kitchen restaurant offers breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea or the Coffee Bar and Larder have a delicious selection of coffees, teas, cakes, soups and sandwiches.
The summer holidays see special events taking place from The Three Inch Fools’ performance of Macbeth on 11th July to Summer Wreath Making for the adults. And where could be more perfect to get back to nature?
The park has a number of waymarked walking and cycling routes for the whole family along rivers and through ancient woodland.
